¡®Active¡¯ a trap in later life, a criticque of polieconomic of the sign
Choi Hye-Ji

Abstract
This study started from a notion that analysis on a social policy for ¡®active¡¯ aging needs to be based on polieconomic understanding regarding the sign of active. Based on the theory of Baudrillard on the sign and consumption, this study examined the characteristics of sign of ¡®active¡¯ and its consumption with an intention to extend the scope of sign to conceptual objects from physical ones. This study analyzed ¡®active¡¯as a simulacra and insisted that it empathized individualization of a responsibility on well-being of later life; made inequality and class issues invisible; deprived a freedom of choice on existence in unproductive way.
